Isla Mujeres, 12pm

Crisi and I flew down to Mexico at the end of December for our honeymoon. A fun fact about me, I had never been to another country. Crazy right? We spent some time doing some research and ultimately landed on Hotel Xcaret Arte in the Riviera Maya. The resort was cool, the food was off the charts (which I think is surprising for an all-inclusive), there were some things that weren’t quite as advertised but overall I would say it was a positive experience. One thing about us, no matter what the time, place, or situation, Crisi and I will always have a good time, there’s no doubt about that.

One of our excursions we planned through the resort was a catamaran to Isla Mujeres. We probably should’ve checked a map beforehand because many of these “inclusive experiences” were about an hour or more bus ride from the resort, which is on us. The catamaran ride was good though, we decided not to snorkel (which was a good move on our part, since anyone that did basically had to swim for 20 minutes straight to get from where the boat dropped them off to where it picked them up), had our lunch and a few drinks on the boat and got prepared to get dropped off.

Once we got to Isla Mujeres, they told us we were on our own (even though it claims to bring you to a beach club) and I don’t know about much of the rest of the island, but this particular place they dropped us was pretty wild. As we made our way down to find a beach club with some open chairs, we were propositioned by hustlers offering everything from homemade bracelets, cups full of cut up mangoes, massages, and more. I could have sworn one guy said he knew me and offered me iguana meat, at first I thought “just because I’m a little hefty doesn’t mean I’ll eat just anything” but Crisi corrected me and told me he was, in fact, offering me “marijuana and cocaìna” which must say something else about me entirely. He did offer me a free sample, which I politely declined as Crisi dragged me away to get me to stop talking to the guy.

We finally found a small beach club where we got a couple broken lounge chairs and some drinks and took some time to enjoy the beach and the view.

All in all, I’ll say it was an experience. I’m definitely glad we did it, but would I do it again? Maybe.
